Job Purpose

The Marketing and Events Coordinator is a critical role for the Downtown District of Belleville. They would work closely with the Downtown Belleville District BIA Executive Director to develop and execute a comprehensive strategic social media plan and manage events, designed to position the downtown core as a tourist destination for both locals and tourists.

The incumbent is a community-minded, results oriented individual who will lead the BDIA into a season of hyper-growth while empowering and encouraging members, collaborators, residents, and visitors to become engaged active members of the community as a whole. The Assistant not only understands but also is passionate about the BDIA’s mission. They are able to build collaborative partnerships, seek outside-of-the-box solutions, and pivot direction when needed.

The incumbent would oversee and participate in creating a successful communications strategy for multiple audiences, including but not limited to members, potential members, Board of Directors, key stakeholders, collaborators, media, and visitors to the area.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, build and cultivate relationships and synergies with all stakeholders including: BDIA members, the City of Belleville, members of the federal, provincial and municipal governments including tourism, the OBIAA, other BIA’s, the media, local business leaders, suppliers, the business community and other stakeholders, such as volunteers and partners of BDIA.
  • Foster and maintain positive, engaging relationships within the BDIA, its members, volunteers, suppliers, key stakeholders and collaborative partners.
  • Engage media influencers (print, digital, video, TV) locally and outside of the Quinte Region to actively promote the downtown core of Belleville as a destination of choice.
  • Onboarding new members by scheduling ribbon cutting, writing a press release and a feature post or blog
  • Ongoing communications to members and visitors through frequent digital newsletters, social media and other communication channel

Use of key marketing performance metrics and tracking tools in order to translate results into actionable insights for the Board of Directors.

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and possible third parties to uncover insights and strategies to develop and implement marketing and branding strategies.
  • Oversee the growth of existing downtown businesses, identifying opportunities to equip, market and promote them.
  • Design materials for initiatives utilizing effective strategies and techniques to encourage participation and the involvement of members, visitors and various stakeholders.
  • Lead the design and development of innovative social media marketing and promotional campaigns.
  • Provide consistent branding to ensure professional presentation of written documentation, advertising, and other promotional/marketing materials.
  • Develop and implement a communication plan, including a content calendar. This includes social media channels, e-blasts, and other means of communication
  • Support communications that promote and enhance the image of downtown Belleville to our members, collaborators and visitors.
  • Identify appropriate communication tactics to ensure appropriate audiences are engaged.
  • Use measurement methods to monitor progress toward goals.
  • Work alongside the Executive Director to effectively collaborate with community patterns when developing event proposals.
  • Develop, implement and maintain paid social media advertising campaigns in various digital media channels including but not limited to Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, Linked In and digital display ads
  • Plan, execute and be the main point of contact for events within the Downtown District.
  • Planning and coordination of key events with the Executive Director and other staff
  • Development and design of the overall event campaign including collateral, print, digital, audio, out of home, social media, press releases and more.
  • Liaise with vendors, exhibitors, and stakeholders during the event planning process to ensure everything is in order.
  • Manage and participate in all event set-up, tear down, and follow-up processes
  • Maintain marketing event budget
  • Assist with booking venues, entertainers, photographers
  • Follow up and assess an event’s overall success by evaluating analytics and other relevant KPIs
  • Create and distribute event listing pages on social media websites
  • Coordination and oversight of volunteers

Key Qualifications

  • Degree/diploma in Graphic Design, Web Design, Digital Media, Public Relations or a related field.
  • Understanding of and being capable of executing marketing strategies.
  • 3 years of related experience providing design and digital media services, preferably in a communications and/or marketing environment.
  • 2 years experience planning and executing events.
  • Proficient in writing and editing for various communication channels with demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated understanding of social media and social media management platforms and trends a must.
  • Experience using InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge or similar Photo library as well as video and audio editing software is considered an asset.
  • Experience and facility with using MS Office, Excel, presentation software, and various social media platforms.
  • High level of comfort in the world of technology, video, photography, file sizes, editing etc., as well as the use of cloud-based products, such as Google Drive, Dropbox.
  • Marketing experience and a comprehensive knowledge and experience of what it takes to build a brand.
  • A deep understanding and respect of downtown Belleville from a social, economical and historical point of view and a passion to see the downtown core become a hub of activity and community.

Working Conditions

  • Salary - $50,000 - $60,000/year based on experience
  • This position is set in an office setting.
  • Working hours are generally from 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Overtime and weekends may be required.
  • Position requires attending meetings, special events and activities outside of regular business hours and some weekends.
  • Ability to walk extensively throughout the downtown core.
  • Ability to lift to 30 pounds.
