Location: Lennox and Addington County Museum and Archives, Napanee, Ontario

Supervisor: Supervisor Museum & Curator

Hours of Work: 9:00am to 5:00pm (35 hours per week, weekends and evenings as required)

Rate of Pay: $19.18 per hour

Duration: May 13, 2024 to August 30, 2024

The County of Lennox & Addington is seeking an Archives Assistant to help our Museum conduct a review of the oversized artwork within our Archives' holdings and assist with the deaccessioning process. The position will assist with the many facets of a working museum and archives including care and handling, conservation, storage, research and reference services. The successful applicant will gain hands-on experience in deaccessioning policies, archival content management software (Past Perfect and Archeion), and collaboration with professional partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess oversized artwork in the Archives' holdings
  • Conduct research on artists and their artwork using primary, reference materials, and online resources
  • Apply collection criteria assessment tools and institution policies to recommend items for deaccessioning
  • Prepare comprehensive deaccession reports for review by the Archivist
  • Work with the Archivist to ethically remove deaccessioned items from the Archives’ holdings
  • Update Past Perfect and shelf list with the inventory of deaccessioned items, and new locations of reorganized artworks
  • Update Archeion finding aids as applicable
  • Support events and activities in the Museum as assigned
  • Satisfactory attendance record, subject to the requirements of the Ontario Human Rights Code

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Post-Secondary education in archival and/or library studies, museum studies, history, or other related field (either in progress and returning to school in the Fall, between the ages of 16-30)
  • Demonstrated familiarity with computer software - PastPerfect and Microsoft Suite
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Must be able to lift and move materials up to 40 lbs.
  • Current CPIC required
  • This position is dependent on funding from Young Canada Works
