This is an Army Reserve position that is part time (evenings and weekends) over the school year with the option for full time over the summer months (01 May to 31 August).

OVERVIEW
An Infantry Officer performs a wide range of duties, from commanding and leading soldiers as part of a team to occupying various staff positions involving planning, training, intelligence, logistics and personnel administration.

As commissioned members of Canada’s Infantry regiments, which belong to the Combat Arms, Infantry Officers are capable of operating anywhere in the world, in any environment including Arctic tundra, mountains, jungle or desert and in any combination of arms, including parachute, airmobile and amphibious operations. The primary role of Infantry during operations is to be involved in combat.
Reserve Infantry Officer
• Basic Military Qualification: This is the first course completed by all members of the Canadian Armed Forces, it teaches all of the basic skills required for CAF service (Dress, Drill, Discipline and Deportment, First Aid and CPR, navigation with a map and compass, C7 Service Rifle, etc). The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment offers this course as a weekend course (2-3 weekends a month from October - March) or a full time course over the summer months (4.5 weeks).
• Infantry Officer trades training: The required training for Infantry Officers takes place at the Infantry School in Gagetown, New Brunswick. Infantry Officers will learn the duties and responsibilities required to command and lead an Infantry Platoon. This training is designed to progressively develop leadership skills while offering in-depth tactical challenges associated with conducting operations. Weaponry training will also be a part of this learning experience (approx. 22 weeks split over 2 summer).

Requirements

To be eligible to apply you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Age: Between the ages of 16 and 56 (under the age of 18 requires parental consent)
Citizenship: Canadian Citizen
Education: Enrolled as a full-time, part-time or distance learning undergraduate student at a Canadian post-secondary educational institute in a program that leads to a baccalaureate in a Baccalaureate degree (university) or have already obtained a Baccalaureate degree.

Eligible applicants will complete a Aptitude test, Fitness test, Medical, Interview and Background check to determine if they will be hired. All of this testing is completed in 2 appointments and can be completed at our Belleville, Cobourg or Peterborough armouries.

Other Compensation Details

As a Canadian Armed Forces Reserve position income is directly tied to the amount the member works.

This is predominantly a part time position (evenings and weekends) but has short periods of full time employment opportunities. The Army Reserve offers Full Time Summer Employment from 01 May to 31 August (or any lesser date range within those dates) for the first 4 years of a members career.

Benefits

Up to $2000 a year towards Post Secondary education with a career maximum of $8000 - some conditions apply.

Member dental coverage - does not cover family members.
