The TCS Group of Companies is seeking a Director of Operations within our busy, expanding, third-party logistics organization. 

Located on the banks of the Bay of Quinte, Trenton Cold Storage offers customized cold storage, temperature-controlled warehousing, and distribution since 1902. With seven warehouse facilities in Ontario and two in Alberta, Trenton Cold Storage provides Canada with more than 34,000,000 cubic feet of cold storage and refrigerated warehouse space.

Reporting to the Vice President of Sales and Operations, the Director of Operations will be responsible to organize and oversee the daily operations of our company, always ensuring compliance with CFIA and GMP guidelines and fostering strong and proactive management of the Distribution Centre; you will also be responsible for leading and implementing innovative initiatives that reduce cost, increase productivity and profitability.

Accountabilities:

Responsible for achieving challenging business objectives, delivering high levels of satisfaction with internal and external customers
Overall management and accountability of the Distribution Centres and the customers the DC serves
Plan, direct, and coordinate all distribution activities and will ensure to keep up to date with competitive activity, risks, and opportunities
Always act upon opportunities to add value and profitability by using initiative and seeking out innovative solutions or cost savings
Develop, implement, and ensure service and KPIs levels are met in compliance with signed manufacturer/customer agreements
Draw up, have approved, and administer the budget for the DC. Develop and implement operational tactics for controlling operating costs and improving efficiencies at the Distribution Center. Foster a culture of continuous improvement
Monitor inventory and complete forensic inventory analyses to ensure inventory accuracy
Responsible to oversee DC labor planning, experience with engineered labor standards considered an asset
Extensive experience in leveraging WMS software applications
Participate in strategic development and planning activities, as well as in the implementation of activities and programs.
In conjunction with other departments respond to RFI, RFP, RFT or RFQ and ensure solutions are developed and implemented to achieve the TCS strategy
Anticipate and respond quickly to customers’ needs and changes – proactively seeking out information from the customer
Ensure compliance with CFIA, TSSA and other regulatory guidelines and foster strong and proactive management of the Distribution Centers
Ensure all requirements relating to security, safety & health, environment, and quality are being fully implemented and are consistently respected at the Distribution Center
Responsible for ensuring that SOPs reflect the operational reality across the Distribution Centers and are in accordance with SOPs or work procedures, as required
Responsible for ensuring that Business Continuity Plans are developed, tested, and continuously updated and that employees are trained and cross-trained
Promote the company’s vision and values, leading the way in demonstrating TCS's people culture, to ensure that the team feels valued, listened to, and appreciated
Ensure that staff members have the tools and training they need to do their jobs well. Develop and implement professional development and succession planning
Being consistently visible within the facility – provide an approachable and open-minded style, in order to allow people to feel “in touch” with the Director of Operations and his/her/their plan; be an enabler of the Culture of Excellence
Create and cultivate good business relationships with customers and other industry players
Promote and maintain employee engagement: Develop action plan to address survey outcomes
Plan the activities of staff reporting to him, her or them, evaluate results, and take appropriate steps to improve individual performance
Identify the human resources needed to do the work, delegate appropriate responsibilities and authority to employees reporting to him or her, and recommend organizational changes as needed
Authorize requests, expenses, and other financial transactions under his or her responsibility and protect the company's profits and assets from loss and waste

Requirements

Role requirements:

Degree in Operations Management or a related Supply Chain Management program;
8-10 years of pertinent operational experience with a proven track record;
Recognized knowledge of 3PL models, distribution, transportation, and logistics information systems
Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze results and respond effectively and efficiently;
Very strong communication and presentation skills;
A professional, confident, and strategic relationship builder;
Strong leadership and mentorship skills; self-starter, decisive and results-oriented.
Strong interpersonal skills; highly people-oriented; excels in a team environment;
Strong executive presence, ability to deal with senior executives and manage their accounts;
Accountable and results-oriented;
Collaborative and capable of functioning with confidence and credibility at the senior level of the client organization;
Excellent knowledge of MS Office; Word, Excel
Knowledge of GMP will be considered an asset
Be available for travel as required
