The Cook reports directly to the Nutritional Care Manager and is responsible for preparing food and beverages for residents, as well as communicating with health and regulatory bodies regarding the department’s operations.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Nutritional Care Manager to ensure that the requirements of the Fixing Long Term Care Act and Regulations, Accreditation Standards and all Omni standards, policies and procedures are met.
- Liaise with officials of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Long-Term Care, Accreditation Canada, Public Health and other consultative and regulatory bodies regarding the organization and operation of the nutritional care department and the nutritional care of the residents of the home
- Prepare food and beverages in accordance with menu requirements, recipe and food production guidelines, diet and texture requirements and established Omni policies and procedures.
- Always follow appropriate safe food handling and infection control procedures throughout the receiving, storing, thawing and preparation, cooking, holding and serving processes to prevent food borne illness.
- Ensure each resident can express his/her meal preferences by offering them a visual choice of each meal option prior to service. Accommodate resident requests and/or food preferences.

- Highlight the importance of creativity and passion for cooking
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to recipes and standards
- Ensure food quality and presentation.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Education / Qualifications
- Successful completion of an approved Chef’s Training program
- Certificate of Qualification – Cook
- Certificate of Qualification – Institutional Cook (A certificate of completion will be required)
- Culinary school diploma or equivalent experience is a plus
- Minimum of 3 years experience in long term care setting is a plus
