Position Summary

Child and Youth Workers (CYW) are critical members of the team at Quinte West Youth Centre! As a CYW this summer, you will develop relationships with youth, provide a safe and inclusive environment, foster learning and recreation, and make a meaningful difference! Join our team of CYWs, board members, volunteers, and placement students, and contribute to the development and oversight of a dynamic, exciting program and drop-in facility.

Quinte West Youth Centre (QWYC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, empowering, and inspiring youth between the ages of 10 and 18. Reports to: Executive Director

Location: Quinte West Youth Centre, 2 Wooler Road, Trenton, ON

Compensation: $20.00/hour, 35 hours per week

Duration: June 29 to August 21, 2026 (8 weeks)

Hours: 10:00 am-5:00 pm

Key Responsibilities 

  • Oversee daily operations, programming, and youth members; fostering a trusting, non-judgmental, and non-exploitative relationship with youth.
  • Actively engage in programming and activities to serve as a positive role model for youth in the centre.
  • Organize, supervise, and take part in recreational, educational, housekeeping, and social activities to build trusting relationships, offer alternative activities, and provide guidance in social interaction.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to volunteers and placement students.
  • Encourage participant involvement in youth-led activities and community engagement.
  • Ensure that those attending the Youth Centre respect each other, the stated boundaries, staff & volunteers, other users of the building, and the facilities themselves, and that all policies, including health and safety procedures, are adhered to.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to community members, family members, and visitors; provide information about the Centre; and respond to inquiries.
  • Provide vigilant oversight to ensure the safety of everyone in the centre, and be prepared to respond in case of emergency.
  • Adhere to the Centre’s Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children and Youth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

To be eligible for this position, which is funded through Canada Summer Jobs, you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of the summer job,
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job, and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
    This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of the summer job.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A relevant college diploma or university degree, either completed or in process.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in child & youth care, or a blend of relevant education and experience working with youth.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with community resources in Quinte West.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Alignment with the organization’s mandate, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to maintain accurate records and generate reports.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed, inclusive, youth-centred practice, principles of child protection, equity, and inclusion.
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR and a current Vulnerable-Sector Police Check.
  • Safe Food Handling certification, and Driver’s License with access to a vehicle, would both be an asset.
  • Cover letter is required.
