Website NORTHUMBERLAND FINE FOOD
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality and understands that the best retail experience feels less like a transaction and more like being welcomed into a beautiful space. Our shop is run as an upscale boutique, and the cashier is the person who sets the tone for every customer who walks through our doors — greeting them warmly, engaging in small conversations as they browse, keeping the floor looking immaculate, and ringing through their purchases with care. The cash register is a meaningful part of the role, but it is secondary to the experience you create. We need someone reliable, presentable, and naturally engaged with people, who takes real pride in keeping a beautiful store looking its best. If that kind of work appeals to you, keep reading.
What you’ll be responsible for:
- Completing the opening and closing procedures with care and attention to detail
- Greeting customers warmly and engaging them in small conversation as they shop, so they feel comfortable asking questions about our products
- Becoming familiar with the weekly menu and the location of every menu item, so you can speak to it in an informed and engaging way
- Familiarizing yourself with each day’s pickup and delivery schedule
- Processing online orders and completing sales transactions at the cash registers according to store protocols
- Receiving food deliveries according to store protocols and maintaining our inventory systems across all products
- Refacing shelves, fridges, freezers, and displays throughout the day to keep the store looking fresh and inviting
- Keeping the store meticulously clean
What we’re looking for:
- Someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality and takes pride in making people feel looked after
- A real eye for detail and pride in keeping a beautiful space looking its best
- Warmth and confidence with customers, paired with efficiency at the register
- Reliability — the willingness to commit to every Saturday and Sunday, year-round
- Smart Serve certification, or the eligibility and willingness to obtain it before starting (required)
Schedule and availability
This is a weekend-only position. Our expectation is that you are available every Saturday and every Sunday throughout the year, including holiday weekends and the summer season. The role is ideally suited to a university student looking for steady weekend hours that work alongside weekday classes — but it is open to anyone who can commit to consistent year-round Saturday and Sunday availability. Because our weekend coverage depends on you, we can only accommodate limited weekend-off requests. If you cannot commit to both days every weekend on a regular basis, this is not the right role for you.
Pay starts at $19/hr with an opportunity for meaningful increases based on performance. If you’re interested, please send your resume and a brief note about why this role appeals to you to [email protected].
