The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) reports directly to the Director of Care and is tasked with fulfilling all assigned duties as a clinical leader. This role adheres to all legislated and Omni standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring that each resident receives personalized support, care, and services tailored to their needs and preferences, with a constant emphasis on excellence in customer service.

  • Salary: Starting amount : $32.78 per hour

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the Director of Care and Registered Nurse, ensure that the appropriate requirements of The Nursing Homes Act and Regulation, Long Term Care Program Standards, Canadian Council on Health Service Accreditation Standard and other pertinent legislated standards and requirements are implemented within the nursing department.
  • Train, supervise and assist in the evaluation of the performance of non-registered nursing staff with guidance from the Director of Care and RN.
  • Document and sign details of any personnel problems and submit to the Director of Care or her designate
  • Initiate disciplinary action, when necessary, in accordance with home policy and procedure; reinstruct employees in acceptable behavior and /or performance.
  • Perform professional responsibilities and demonstrate conduct in accordance with the Standards of Practice established by the College of Nurses of Ontario; perform duties in accordance with the policies and procedures of the home.
  • Dispense medications and provide direct nursing care and treatments as instructed by the Director of Care and RN in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the provision of resident care by all staff in the department in accordance with the physician’s orders and the established plan of care; promptly correct deficiencies when identified, instruct personnel in correct procedures.
  • Establish communications procedures with medical personnel and other healthcare specialists, managers and staff from other departments, Ministry of Health and Long Term Care officials, social workers, clergy, residents and their family members and coworkers to ensure continuity and quality nursing care.
  • Ensure security of the building, equipment and supplies by always keeping keys in own possession.
  • Represent the home at appropriate community and professional meetings; attend all workshops, in-service education sessions and other meeting.

Education

  • A Diploma in Nursing, as well as a certificate of competence as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current CPR certification.
