Certified Cook

Area of Assignment: LTC

Basic Function and Scope:

The Cook oversees and coordinates the preparation and delivery of nutritional meals and snack for the residents of LACGH LTC according to all appropriate regulations and standards including the Fixing the Long Term Care Act. The Cook will carry out the duties in alignment to the organization’s mission, vision and values and work to further its priorities.

Hours of Work: Rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights, and weekends), as required.

Status: Full-Time

Pay Rate: $27.60-$29.34

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma;
  • Red Seal Certification and/or Chef training or Culinary Management Diploma from a recognized program as outlined in the O.Reg. 246/22 s. 82(2) under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a hospital or long term care setting is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years cooking experience
  • Experienced in large quantity food preparation, as well as cooking from “scratch”

Required Skills:

  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of food services best practices (Safe food handling, food temperatures, clean equipment etc.);
  • Working knowledge of or willingness to learn computer applications including Cerner/Lumeo, DFM and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment;
  • Must have previous proven good performance and attendance record
  • Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills with ability to function within a fast paced environment with a continuous mindset of improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change within an environment with a continuous process improvement mindset.
