Duties and Responsibilities:

1. General Housekeeping

1.1. Clean, dust and vacuum residents’ bedrooms and public areas of the residence (lounges, corridors, elevators, etc.).

1.2. Clean and sanitize residents’ bathroom and all washrooms in the residence, including all fixtures, tiles, floors, vanity and mirrors.

1.3. Clean rooms vacated by residents and prepare rooms for incoming residents.

1.4. Collect refuse from residents’ rooms and other areas of the residence and dispose of this refuse in accordance with set procedures.

1.5. Clean and organize outdoor and patio furniture.

1.6. Water and care for plants in the residence.

1.7. Some memory work is required to know residents and personal preferences.

2. Risk Management and Safety

2.1. Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies, adherence to safety rules and regulations.

2.2. Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures (extinguishers), Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), and lockout tagout procedures.

2.3. Reports all accidents and incidents immediately.

2.4. Reports all unsafe and hazardous conditions or equipment immediately.

2.5. Complies with all infection control techniques, placement of biohazard containers and removal techniques , procedures and policies.

2.6. Participates in fire safety and mock disaster procedures.

3. Other

3.1. Works in a safe manner and ensures department operations are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, Mistral Group of Companies policies, procedures, and other associated legislation.

3.2. Other related duties, as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess the following:

License, Registration, Training and Clearances

  • Valid and unrestricted Class “G” Driver’s License
  • Police Record Check (per RHA), including Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
  • Immunization per Brighton Retirement Living’s policy, if applicable
  • Tuberculosis (TB) testing

Experience

  • Previous housekeeping experience, preferably in hospitality or a retirement home, with duties related to those listed above.
  • Previous employment in a healthcare or hospitality setting considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding of and empathy for the needs of the elderly/seniors.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions to complete simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including standing for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours/day), walking and maneuvering tight spaces, pulling/pushing/bending/listing cleaning carts (up to 50lbs.), reaching, repetitive arm and upper body motions in internals (up to 8 hours/day), working in warm conditions for extended periods of time.

A combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
