Sales Associate (Full-Time)

Location: Bay View Home Hardware, 475 Bridge St E, Belleville, ON
Hours: Approximately 32–40 hours per week
Schedule: Must be available during all store hours, including weekends (non-negotiable)
Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour, based on experience

Job Summary

We’re seeking an experienced Sales Associate to join our hardware retail team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong customer service background who can confidently qualify customer needs, recommend solutions, and suggest related or value-added products. You’ll play a key role in supporting both customers and day-to-day store operations in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.

This is a full-time position, scheduled approximately 32–40 hours per week, with shifts during regular operating hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient customer service
  • Qualify customer needs using open-ended questions and active listening
  • Recommend products and suggest related or value-added items to complete customer projects
  • Assist customers in locating, comparing, and selecting merchandise in store, online, and by phone
  • Process transactions accurately using a retail POS system
  • Handle special orders and follow up on non-stock or out-of-stock items
  • Assist with loading and transporting large or heavy items
  • Support merchandising, pricing updates, displays, and promotional signage
  • Receive, unload, and stock incoming merchandise
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sales floor and stockroom
  • Participate in cycle counts and annual inventory
  • Follow all safety procedures, loss prevention policies, and store standards
  • Support additional departments and complete other duties as assigned by Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Availability to work weekends (non-negotiable) and all regular store hours: Mon–Fri: 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m, Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m, and Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Experience in a customer service or sales role using a retail POS system
  • Prior retail experience
  • Strong communication skills and customer-first mindset
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods while wearing steel-toed footwear
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Reliable transportation and dependable attendance, with the ability to commute to our Belleville, ON location

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a hardware, building supply, or home improvement environment
  • Product knowledge in plumbing, electrical, tools, and/or paint
  • Previous fork truck certification and experience
  • Experience suggesting add-on or complementary products
  • Comfort assisting customers with project-based purchasing

Reporting Relationship

  • Reports to the Store Manager.
