Albert College

Albert College is seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and dedicated Primary Teacher (Long-Term Occasional) to join our Junior School team. The successful candidate will be an engaging and relational educator who understands the unique developmental needs of young children and is passionate about creating a classroom environment where students feel safe, valued, challenged, and excited to learn.

Position Summary
The Primary Teacher (LTO) will be responsible for creating a warm, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and personal growth of students. The successful candidate will embrace innovative and student-centered teaching practices while fostering a strong sense of belonging and community within the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a positive, caring, and inclusive classroom environment built on strong relationships and mutual respect.
  • Plan and deliver engaging learning experiences that support student growth and achievement.
  • Implement play-based, inquiry-based, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Deliver effective literacy and numeracy instruction, including phonics, reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Develop and implement curriculum, assessment, and evaluation practices appropriate to primary-aged learners.
  • Differentiate instruction and utilize responsive teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Incorporate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), emotional coaching, and self-regulation strategies into daily classroom practice.
  • Support students in developing independence, confidence, communication skills, and positive peer relationships.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, colleagues, and members of the school community.
  • Collaborate with Learning Support, Junior School staff, and other educators to promote student success.
  • Integrate technology into teaching, learning, and communication.
  • Participate in co-curricular activities and contribute to student experiences across the Five A’s.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience teaching Primary grades or demonstrate a strong understanding of early childhood development.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of best practices in literacy and numeracy instruction.
  • Be skilled in creating engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom culture where every student feels valued and supported.
  • Possess strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Embrace Albert College’s values of Individuality, Compassion, Integrity, Diversity & Inclusion, and Optimism.
  • Hold Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification or an equivalent teaching qualification with Primary/Junior qualifications.
