About the Role
Reporting to the owner, the Home Automation Technician installs, configures and maintains smart home systems and work with a variety of technologies. The technician will ensure that smart home systems are installed and operating correctly, providing a secure and reliable user experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, load and unload tools, equipment and materials for installations and service calls
  • Perform mathematical calculations and take accurate measurements
  • Complete low-voltage pre-wiring
  • Install PVC/EMT conduit
  • Install CAT5e/CAT6 and related cabling for networking/video security systems
  • Ensure all equipment is mounted, wired and tested according to specifications and company safety standards
  • Program, install, integrate and provide maintenance of home automation systems, networks, smart lighting, security, motorized shades, audio, video and home theatre systems
  • Set up and optimize Wi-Fi networks, switches and routers to support smart devices
  • Instruct clients on the use of their smart systems, apps and controls
  • Provide as-needed technical support, either onsite or remotely
  • Offer advice on compatibility and expanding systems to customers
  • Maintain vehicle inventory for parts and tools. Responsible for overall cleanliness of vehicle, both interior and exterior and ensuring that routine maintenance is performed on a regular basis
  • Complete necessary documentation for billing and customer record keeping
  • Perform additional duties as required

Skills and Core Competencies

  • Experience in automation, experience in a related field, OR willingness to learn home integration platforms including programming and installing home automation systems such as Lutron, Lutron RA2/RA3, DoorBird, Control4, Araknis Networks, Starlink and similar (Training is provided)
  • Ability to read and understand diagrams, blueprints and schematics
  • Effective communication skills with a positive, professional and friendly attitude
  • Strong problem-solving skills and logical thinking
  • Proven multi-tasking abilities with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Flexibility and adaptability to assist with various tasks as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive client data with discretion

Qualifications

  • OSSD or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • A clean criminal background check
  • 3-5 years experience installing, servicing and programming residential, commercial and/or industrial solutions is an asset
  • Background in networking is considered an asset

Working Conditions

  • Working hours are generally between 9 AM – 5 PM or 8 AM – 4 PM from Monday – Friday
  • This position requires working on client sites with preparation and/or remote programming conducted from the shop
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and handle heavy equipment
  • Must be able to work in tight/confined spaces or at heights
  • Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, lift, and climb stairs, ladders, roofs and scaffolding

Hours: Full-time hours with a possibility of overtime
